It’s easy to see why men drool over “Star Trek’s” newest Vulcan. What a pair! And who cares if they’re fake? (We’re talking about her ears, of course.) Just a few episodes into its run, UPN’s “Enterprise” is winning its time slot with men of all ages—and they’re not tuning in for the Styrofoam rocks. T’Pol, the crew’s red-hot ice queen, is suddenly a sex symbol—the 35th most popular search on Lycos. And like its Vulcan science officer, “Enterprise,” a prequel set 100 years before Kirk blasted toward the final frontier, is sexing up the sci-fi franchise. “It’s a different kind of show,” says Jolene Blalock, who plays the Vulcan vixen. “There are more guys running around in little blue skivvies.” Still, Blalock admits it’s hard to make “Star Trek” cool given “the whole freak thing”—the legions of Trekkers willing to memorize the Klingon dictionary. Maybe the model turned actress turned alien isn’t the best ambassador to the uninitiated. After all, she spews “Trek” talk, saying quite earnestly, “Vulcans come from such a volatile society. I mean, just look at the history of the Vulcan race!” Thanks for the social-studies lesson. Bet that’s what her new fans were looking for on the Internet.
